1st century imminence in the Bible of the book of Revelation?
1st century imminence in the Bible of the book of Revelation?
The content of the book of Revelation could have been apprehended as imminent in the 1st century according to the Bible.
Revelation 1:1 & Revelation 22:6: In quickness:
At the beginning of the book of Revelation, it is written in the 1st century about "(THE) REVELATION (of) Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to-show His slaves (the things) which must take-place IN QUICKNESS" (Revelation 1:1). Here it is written that "(THE) REVELATION" (Revelation 1:1) in the singular is showing the things which "must take-place IN QUICKNESS" (Revelation 1:1)
At the beginning of the book of Revelation, it is written in the 1st century: "Blessed (is) the (one) reading, and the (ones) hearing the words (of THIS) PROPHECY and keeping the (things) having-been-written in it, for the time (is) NEAR" (Revelation 1:3). Here it is written about the words of "(THIS) PROPHECY" (Revelation 1:3) in the singular that "the time (is) NEAR" (Revelation 1:3).
At the end of the book of Revelation, it is written in the 1st century that "he-says (to) me, “Do not seal the words (of) THE PROPHECY OF THIS BOOK, for the time is NEAR" (Revelation 22:10). Here it is written about the words of "THE PROPHECY" (Revelation 22:10) in the singular of "THIS BOOK" (Revelation 22:10) that "the time (is) NEAR" (Revelation 22:10).
Revelation 1:19: About-to:
At the beginning of the book of Revelation, it is written in the 1st century: "write (the things) which you-saw, and (the things) which are, and (THE THINGS) which ARE-ABOUT [melló 3195 in Greek] to-take-place after these (things)" (Revelation 1:19). Here it is written to write "(THE THINGS) which ARE-ABOUT [melló 3195 in Greek] to-take-place" (Revelation 1:19). These are described as ABOUT-TO take place "after these (things)" (Revelation 1:19) "which are" (Revelation 1:19) already there in the present tense.
The Greek word for "ARE-ABOUT" [melló 3195 in Greek] is a verb that can be translated as "IS-ABOUT-TO".
Revelation 22:10 & Daniel 12:4: Do not seal:
At the end of the book of Revelation, it is written in the 1st century that "DO NOT SEAL the WORDS (of) THE PROPHECY OF THIS BOOK, for the TIME is NEAR. Let the (one) doing-unrighteousness still do-unrighteousness" (Revelation 22:10-11).
There are similarities to what Daniel wrote several centuries before Christ, as it is was written: "And you, Daniel, hide the WORDS, and SEAL THE BOOK until (the) appointed TIME of (the) end; until many shall rage, and the earth shall be filled with unrighteousness" (Daniel 12:4 (LXX)).
Daniel was told several centuries before Christ to "SEAL THE BOOK until (the) appointed TIME of (the) end" (Daniel 12:4 (LXX)), but John was told in the 1st century to "NOT SEAL the WORDS (of) THE PROPHECY OF THIS BOOK, for the TIME is NEAR" (Revelation 22:10-11).
More elements to consider:
Matthew 24:
Jesus announced things to come in the 1st century in Matthew 24, and said to His 1st century audience: "also YOU, when YOU-see all these (things), YOU know that it-is near, at (the) doors. Truly I-say (to) YOU that this generation by-no-means will-pass-away UNTIL all these (things) take-place" (Matthew 24:33-34).
